MapMechanics Mobile maps scheduled appointments on an office based commander unit and then transfers data for each delivery vehicle, sales person or mobile worker to their own PDA, mobile phone or in-cab computer.
Navigation software in each vehicle will then guide the user to the first call advising user whether he or she is on schedule or running late. Information from the mobile worker can be sent back to base so team leaders and customer service operatives are kept informed of any delays or new opportunities arising from changes to the planned schedule. Once a call is completed the driver simply clicks “next call” and will be navigated to the next appointment
Appointments can originally be scheduled by hand or using a powerful routing and scheduling system such as TruckStops to do the call planning for you. And although the TruckStops name implies big vehicles, it is equally efficient at planning and scheduling sales calls, engineer’s installation visits, after sales maintenance or payment collections. |

The system is modular. It can be provided as a complete package (including PDAs and navigation software if required), or just in the form required by individual operators. “It takes the mystique out of going mobile,” says commercial director Chris Greenwood. “Any operator hosting its own email system should be comfortable running MapMechanics Mobile.” |
Mobile users can communicate with the commander unit while on the move via GPRS or by simply plugging in the mobile unit to the commander unit at the start of each day.
Mobile workers are notified directly if they are running late and options are available to include tracking back at base. |
