Continuing Professional Development logo Learning how to use the GeoConcept geographic information system from UK supplier MapMechanics can now help users to qualify for the prized status of Chartered Geographer (CGeog) – a significant personal and professional qualification for people working with mapping and geographic analysis.

MapMechanics’ technical training team has won CPD (Continuing Professional Development) accreditation for the company’s two-day GeoConcept Introductory Training Course. This means that those successfully completing the course qualify for seven points towards the Chartered Geographer (GIS) scheme.

The MapMechanics course provides a practical grounding in the basics of GeoConcept, teaching attendees to manipulate and analyse data in GeoConcept maps and explore other areas of the product. Topics include navigating around maps, creating map objects, writing queries, isochrone analysis, importing and exporting data, thematic mapping, labelling, printing and more.

The CGeog qualification has been developed by the AGI (Association for Geographic Information) with the Royal Geographical Society and the IBG (Institute of British Geographers). The CPD scheme helps trainees to plan, organise and record relevant training for the qualification on a structured basis. Records of the training can be submitted to the Society, and count towards the course work required to attain the qualification.

MapMechanics runs a regular programme of training courses on GIS, digital mapping, routing and scheduling and other related disciplines. They include various other GeoConcept courses covering subjects such as advanced thematics, internet server applications and software development.

The CGeog qualification is seen as an increasingly important milestone for people wanting to advance their career in work that involves mapping and geographic information.
