Territories Software: Door drop round creation

Semi-automated door drop round creation

MapMechanics territories module semi-automates territory creation, calculating how many areas are needed and automatically allocating a unique name and start point to each round. Interactive functionality facilitates “common sense” rules such as do not cross a dual carriageway when delivering leaflets.

Key Features

Set Up dialogue

Creation techniques

Choose building blocks

The configuration dialogue box enables the user to specify the building blocks, from which territories will be made. Unit postcode polygons or Census output areas for example.

Specify area limits

If you wish to ensure all rounds or routes created fall completely inside a postcode sector, use sectors to "contain" your territories.

Decide on count type & preferred average value

The configuration enables the user to specify what the territories will balance: households, businesses, existing customers etc. The user also specifies the average number to be found in each territory.

Where to start

The system links to Microsoft Access tables in which the user can list the areas to be divided into rounds or routes. Different users can work on different areas simultaneously.

How to name

Choose the rules by which the rounds will be named. For example the name of the containing sector, ward or store catchment plus sequential numbers or characters. Add unique code to represent team leader or other company specific information.

Where to output

Specify where you would like to save the resultant territories.

Easy next area prompt

On starting the system the prompt displays the extent of the next area to be divided into territories.

Number of named rounds

The GeoConcept redistricting window is semi-automated within the territories module and automatically displays the number of named and coloured territories required to meet the count type and value rules set in the configuration.

Fine tuning

Only the building blocks within the specified area are now selectable and these can be grouped using easy interactive tools while the redistricting display shows the counts in each resultant round or route.

Choice of background maps

Choose any raster or vector street map. Rasters with well placed street name labels are popular with leaflet distributors whereas addressed mail providers tend to prefer vector data sets with address ranges.

Output mapping

Use GeoConcept shaded maps and translucent fills to highlight only the area within the territory & mask other areas. Automatically label & create legend for each territory map. Output as PDF, JPeg or paper.

Output address lists

Automatically produce lists of addresses to call on. Excluded addresses can be automatically listed separately.

Additional Functionality

Batch Print

Invaluable when you need to make a batch of print outs of many different parts of your map. You may require a separate print out for each postcode area showing delivery rounds within. The module automatically centres the each area of interest on the page and determines whether landscape or portrait, A3 or A4 size is most appropriate for the shape and zoom of the chosen area. Labeling is user-definable and can be standard for all maps or can automatically alter according to the area depicted e.g. the name of the territory and total number of deliveries in the territory. A shading control can automatically shade all areas of the map which are not the main subject of interest.

MM Postman: Door Drop Routing

MM Postman has been developed for use with GeoConcept GIS. The module calculates and displays the shortest route, including both sides of the street, around a user defined network.  Ensures delivery staff walk the shortest distance without doubling back on themselves or crossing roads unnecessarily.  It can also print out a list of the streets for staff to visit, helping to reassure them they are taking the right route.  It even prints address ranges for sections of streets.

GOLAP

G-OLAP technology allows people using Web browsers to call up, interrogate, explore and analyse information in real time. Users can drill down into the data behind online mapping on a live basis. For example users might call up a regional territory and drill down into area teams and individual delivery rounds. Users have the power to make their own selections in real time, and call up maps that deliver current data on a live basis. Users can click to drill down into the data.
